The very restaurant that brought us salt and pepper dumplings is launching its very own breakfast menu dedicated to hash browns.
Desert Island Dumplings comes from humble beginnings, with founder Lucy starting the business by taking orders via Instagram and pedalling her plant-based dumplings across Liverpool on her bike.
Following the initial success of Desert Island Dumplings, Lucy was able to secure a spot in Liverpool’s Kazimier Garden and, earlier this year, was even nominated in the ‘Best Dumpling’ category at this year’s Golden Chopstick Awards.

Desert Island Dumplings has since operated in a number of different venues here in Manchester, including Grub and, more recently, Sadler’s Cat in NOMA.
For its latest venture, the restaurant has confirmed it will be launching as a pop-up inside Ancoats’ General Store from Monday October 31st, and it has created a brand new breakfast menu to celebrate.
On the new menu, diners will be able to find entirely plant-based Fried Breakfast Dumplings – a take on the traditional English staple, featuring garlic mushrooms, ‘sausage’, ‘bacon’, hash browns and ‘cheezy’ beans – alongside parcels filled with Blueberry Overnight Oats.
There will also be a menu dedicated entirely to hash browns, including Salt and Pepper Hash Browns, Hash Brown Poutine, Hash Browns with ‘Cheezy Beans’, or just a classic fried version.

Writing on Instagram, Lucy said: “I’ve got big plans for 24/7 Simpsons episodes and crispy dumplings dipped into glorious soup to help shake those winter blues!
“Way back when I had an office job in town I couldn’t get out of bed without the pull of hash browns and coffee, now it fills me with great joy to be taking on the challenge of making your morning commute a little better.”
Desert Island Dumplings will open its new Ancoats pop-up on Monday October 31st.
