Pigs in Blankets are out, chunks of halloumi wrapped in bacon are in.
Summer is officially over and the temperature has dropped a fraction, so it only makes sense for Aldi, the undisputed kings of all supermarket bargains, to unveil their range of festive goodies.
And perhaps the most talked-about item this year is the return of the iconic halloumi version of Pigs in Blankets, their bacon-wrapped halloumi bites.
Aldi
Okay, I know that Pigs in Blankets are a staple Christmas dinner favourite and, for many, to hear a bad word against them is pretty much a form of blasphemy (can I admit that I prefer sprouts?).
But trust me when I say this; Aldi’s halloumi versions of the Christmassy treats could very well be on the same level – if not better!
Courtesy of Aldi’s primary meat supplier, Ashworth Farm, each packet contains ten halloumi cheese chunks individually wrapped in a rasher of unsmoked streaky bacon. All you need to do is pop them into the oven until the bacon is cooked through and the cheese is golden brown.
And to make them even more appetising? They’re priced at just 79p a pack. I’ll take twenty, please.
People on social media have been sharing their joy over the return of the bacon-wrapped halloumi bites, with one person writing: “Can confirm the bacon wrapped halloumi from Aldi is the business.”
One (admirable) person even went as far as suggesting a halloumi-bacon advent calendar, writing: “Dear Aldi, can I have a Halloumi Wrapped in Bacon advent calendar please.”
If you fancy gorging on bacony-halloumi goodness this winter, head over to the Aldi website. Or, alternatively, you can find your closest Aldi store here.
