Stockport’s I Knead Pizza has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help secure its future in Heaton Chapel.

The pizzeria, which was born out of the famous Stockport Market in 2015, has become well known and loved for its Neapolitan style pizzas, calzones, and unique ‘pizza butties’.

Over the years, I Knead Pizza has operated mainly through dark kitchens and a street food unit in Hatch on Oxford Road, but they’ve always wanted a proper restaurant space to call home and to expand from pizzas to Italian tapas, cocktails, and pizza brunches.

They recently found this place in Heaton Chapel – the old Donatello’s unit on the A6 – but, sadly, need some help to secure it and make it their own.

Despite investing £90,000 of their own money, the team behind I Knead Pizza need another £50,000 to help pay for the renewal and refurbishment of the building.

Therefore, they’ve set up a Kickstarter campaign that will allow customers to ‘pay it forward’ – basically, whatever money they contribute now will be turned into a voucher to be used within the restaurant once it’s open (which is pencilled in for August).

Their Kickstarter reads: “We have the lease and have begun work on the site, we have invested £90k of our own money and need another £50k to be where we need to be to help pay for the renewal of the building. We have tried to attain loans via the banks but they are reluctant to do so.

“Basically we’re asking people to ‘pay forward’, buy a voucher which will entitle them to the offer purchased when we open later this year.

“We know that our pizza tastes best fresh out of the oven, sat down on the premises in a relaxed and friendly environment. It’s the way it should be and the way we want everyone to experience it.”

Speaking more about the venue itself, the restaurant’s owners explained: “We have paid for a years rent upfront and have most of the equipment ready to go.

“The pledges will speed the process up and get us where we need to be. We want the best for our customers and invite people from all around to enjoy our new restaurant.”

The Kickstarter still has well over a month to go, and has already raised £6,260 of its intended £50,000 target. If you want to support a local business that is sure to be a fantastic addition to Heaton Chapel, click here.
