Manchester’s iconic Irish bar Waxy O’Connor’s has sadly shut for good

Manchester’s iconic Irish bar Waxy O’Connor’s has sadly shut its doors for good, it’s been revealed today.

The legendary boozer has closed for good after nearly two decades serving quality Guinness and pub food to Manchester.

The large unit in the Printworks is now vacant, with reports suggesting ‘To Let’ signs are currently in the window.

Waxy O’Connor’s had one of Manchester’s most unique interiors, with a labyrinth of different areas all joined together by various staircases and passages.

There was also a centuries-old tree from Ireland which stood at the centre of the action.

With an unforgettable wooden interior, including wooden walls, floors, staircases, pews and room-dividers, the pub will be sorely missed by many.

As well as drinks, it also served up classic pub grub as well as Irish classics, including fish and chips, Irish stew, bacon and cabbage, sausage and mash, cottage pie, and soup and soda bread.

While branches of the Irish pub chain currently remain open in London and Glasgow, the Manchester site was quietly taken down from the Waxy O’Connor’s website recently.

As well as that, the Facebook page for the pub also says the venue is now permanently closed.
