Prosecco hangovers are officially the worst kind, according to a wine expert

I can vouch for that…

If you ever find yourself with a horrendous headache the morning after a bottle of bubbles, you might not be the only one.

A wine expert has now revealed that the bubbles in Prosecco actually do give you a worse hangover.

The bubbles, according to sommelier and founder of Club Vino, Marco Castelanelli, change how the liquid flows through your bloodstream and increase the groggy side effects of booze.

Speaking to Tyla, he said: “If you find that you get the worst headache ever after a glass of two or Prosecco then quite simply blame it on the bubbles.

“Prosecco and Champagne both contain little pockets of carbon dioxide which change how the alcohol flows through the bloodstream, helping the body to absorb the alcohol faster.

“Once in the bloodstream the Co2 competes with oxygen which is why you might feel a little woozy and rather drunk rather quickly leading to an exaggerated hangover in the form of a pounding head.”

He also gave a piece of advice we all know but tend to ignore, that you should drink a glass of water with every glass of Prosecco to reduce dehydration in the morning.

The sommelier also said instead of downing the bubbles you should sip slowly and added that you should not drink on an empty stomach.
