While the likelihood of us jetting off on a summer holiday this year are pretty slim, the day when we can finally get off a plane into the searing heat of a foreign country will be back at some point.

The majority of us can’t wait for this moment, and the day we can travel around the world once again will be a very welcome one.

One part of the holiday routine we all cherish is the time spent in airport departures before our flight, a magical place where chugging pints or cocktails at 6am is not only accepted but actively encouraged.

Having a few drinks and some food before boarding our flight is a sacred part of the airport experience, and now Manchester Airport has a new spot to do just that.

During the quiet time of lockdown, the airport has been cracking on with its huge expansion plans, which will see a host of new operators moving into the terminals.

One of these is the Italian favourite San Carlo, which is opening a brand new site in Terminal 2 soon.

Now some first look images of the restaurant have been shared online by DSP Electrical, a company which worked on the new site.

They wrote on Twitter: “Today was the operational handover for the new San Carlo restaurant at Manchester Airport T2. This was a special project we played our part in delivering for TRG Concessions. We look forward to the day when our airports return to the normality we all know & love when travelling.”

And judging by the images the space is pretty much done and ready to go – an official launch date has yet to be confirmed, however.

Will they wait until larger crowds return to the airport or are there currently enough people passing through to justify opening?

Either way, it’s great to have somewhere like San Carlo in the airport, providing some top quality Italian grub alongside bottles of prosecco and fine wines.

The restaurant will be a San Carlo Cicchetti, like the one that has operated inside House of Fraser since 2011 – just across the road from the actual San Carlo restaurant.

The departure terminal is set to double in size, meaning a whole new set of venues will be opening up alongside San Carlo, including Grindsmith, Barburrito, Archie’s and more.
