The local cocktail legends at The Alchemist have teamed up with Grey Goose and social enterprise Foodinate to make a big donation to charity.

To raise awareness of rising food poverty, they’re collecting items to give to a local food bank, and customers who contribute will get a free cocktail in return.

That’s right, you can drink cocktails AND help those in need on Tuesday October 13th, and all you need to do is bring in non-perishable food like a tin of beans, for example.

The Covid-19 pandemic has seen an increase in people relying on food banks across the country with 100,000 households using them for the very first time over lockdown, according to the Trussell Trust.

Food banks are expected to be used even more over Christmas, and the Swap Shop initiative, which is now in its second year, will once again aim to raise awareness for rising national food poverty by encouraging people to exchange a non-perishable food item in return for a cocktail.

Everyone who donates one non-perishable food item will receive a top quality colour changing cocktail at The Alchemist – although larger donations are welcomed, so dig deep – with all donations taken to The Mustard Tree charity ready for those in need.

The Alchemist Spinningfields, New York Street and Media City will accept food items throughout the day and will be respecting distancing measures by offering a takeaway cocktail for those unable to enjoy in the venue.

Hannah Plumb, Culture and Talent Director at The Alchemist says: “We love the work carried out by Foodinate. It’s a truly fantastic initiative tackling food poverty across the country which is an issue we’re passionate about at The Alchemist.

“The Swap Shop is a fun and engaging way to encourage customers to donate to their local food banks, who need our support now more than ever.”

Here’s the T&Cs:

  • It’s for one day only, on Tuesday October 13th 2020
  • Only one cocktail exchange per person
  • The Alchemist will only accept unopened and in date tinned, dried and packaged foods
  • Customers have to bring one food item, but bigger donations are encouraged
