However much we all love Manchester, sometimes you just can’t beat getting away for a little break – even if it’s only for a day.

If that’s you at the moment – and with town being completely rammed with Christmas shoppers, who could blame you – then you might want to check out this pub.

The Good Pub Guide Awards 2020 winners are in, revealing the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to pubs in the UK, and the top new establishment in the country is pretty close to our city.

In fact, it’s just over an hour away from Manchester by car, and well worth the trip – if there’s anyone who knows a good drinking spot, it’s The Good Pub Guide.

This year, their Top Ten New Pubs are the Swan in Marbury (Cheshire), the Boot in Repton (Derbyshire), the Bull in Fairford, the Fossebridge Inn at Fossebridge (both in Gloucestershire), the Blacksmiths in Clayworth (Nottinghamshire), the Litton in Litton (Somerset), the Abingdon Arms in Beckley (Oxfordshire), the Kings Head in Laxfield (Suffolk), the Hollist Arms at Lodsworth (Sussex) and the Arrow Mill at Arrow (Warwickshire).

And the winner is the Swan in Marbury, which was officially crowned New Pub of the Year 2020 by the guide, who go on to describe it as ‘beautifully refurbished and friendly’.

They added: “[It’s a] carefully renovated village pub with attractive open-plan rooms, a thoughtful choice of drinks and food served by well-trained staff and seats on large terrace”.

The pub was reopened back in April 2018, and as well as boasting a beautiful interior, they also serve a wide range of beers and wines, alongside some cracking food.

The Swan at Marbury is located near Whitchurch, Cheshire – for more information check out their website here.
