A Tennessee-inspired dive bar boasting forty rums and 50p chicken wings has opened its doors in Stockport.

Ate Days a Week and hospitality legend Andy James is the brains behind Stockport’s new grungy late night dive bar, Notion.

The new opening has caught the attention of many with its extensive liquor cabinet – Notion boasts over forty varieties of whisky and forty different rums – it is actually one of the very first in Greater Manchester to serve Nusa Cana, a premium Indonesian rum. Now that’s a proper dive bar.

The signature cocktail, ‘Are you in love with a Notion?’, meanwhile, fuses vodka, Chambord, raspberry and pear with apple juice and lemonade, while Notion’s take on the Zombie combines gold rum, overproof rum, white rum, Jägermeister, orange juice, pineapple juice, apple juice and lime – my head hurts just thinking of that.

The food menu, inspired by dishes from the heart of Tennessee, has also been a talking point among Stockport residents, with their chicken wings having already gained quite the reputation.

The famed wings are buttermilk-brined for over twenty-four hours to make sure the meat is soft and juicy when fried and, to make them even more enticing, they’re priced at a more-than-reasonable 50p each.

Notion also serves hand-pressed Cheshire beef burgers which can be customised to perfection by guests.

On his latest venture, Andy said: “The Stockport bar scene right now is the best it has ever been and it’s only going to get better.

“A new wave of independents are coming in and giving it a breath of fresh air and bringing a newfound love of the word “hospitality” to the area. I absolutely love how it’s a community and we can work together with other businesses to bring out the best of the area.

“We’ve already got a very strong working relationship with Neil Garner’s Cherry Jam which has recently opened in the marketplace, working together on their bottomless brunch which boasts food from Ate Days.

“We have more collaborations coming up, so watch this space.”
