Wetherspoons, the place to be for cheap pints, is set to get a whole lot cheaper with the lowering of its drink prices next week.

The pub chain will be slashing the prices on a range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout November at almost all 671 branches in the UK.

The sale will include three main drinks for 99p; Greene King IPA, Beck’s bottles and whiskey measures. Real ale at ninety-nine other branches will be reduced to £1.10, the chain also confirmed.

Meanwhile, in 770 pubs, a Gordon’s 25ml gin measure will set you back £1.99, which includes a mixer, and a glass of Coldwater Creek wine willcost £1.69 for a 175ml glass.

And a bottle of Hardys – either Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Shiraz, Rose – can be bagged for just £6.99, while all hot drinks will be reduced to 99p.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said on the discount: “Our pubs are known for their excellent choice of drinks at value-for-money-prices at all times.

“Throughout November our customers will be able to choose from a great choice of drinks and save themselves some money too.”

Though this isn’t the first time the pub chain has lowered its prices; at the start of September, Martin cut prices for one day in protest of the rising hospitality tax, which increased back up to 12.5% at the end of the month.

The Wetherspoons founder insisted the lower tax rate needed to continue to help pubs stay competitive with big supermarket chains, who don’t pay VAT on food and so can sell discounted alcohol.

He said in a statement: “Taxes should be fair and equitable. However, it is unfair that supermarkets pay zero VAT on food, but pubs and restaurants, in normal circumstances, pay 20%.

“Pubs have been under fantastic pressure for decades, owing to the tax disadvantages which they have with supermarkets. Customers in our pubs on Tax Equality Day will find that the price of their food and drinks will be lower than normal.”
