A world famous pizzeria from Naples is coming to Manchester later this year.
L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele was established in the pizza-capital of the world back in 1870, and is today regarded as one of the best pizza joints in not only Italy, but the entire world.
The restaurant, which is still run by the same family, has become a point of pilgrimage for pizza lovers around the world, and has sprouted various restaurants across major cities such as London, Barcelona, Berlin and Tokyo.

It has a pretty impressive claim to fame, too.
In the Hollywood adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir Eat Pray Love, Julia Roberts’ character indulges in an entire pizza Margherita while dining at the original L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele in Naples.
Gilbert wrote on her visit to the restaurant, where she ordered a margherita with double mozzarella: “I love my pizza so much that I have come to believe in my delirium that my pizza might actually love me, in return.
“I am having a relationship with this pizza, almost an affair.”

Well, you too can now have a relationship with your pizza.
It has been confirmed this week that Manchester will be getting its very own L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele.
Announcing the exciting news on social media, Barker Proudlove – retail property consultants with significant expertise in the North – announced that the pizzeria would be taking over a former Zizzi site on King Street, in a post that reads: “THE BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD is coming to Manchester!!!
“Great Friday news – Barker Proudlove are proud to have completed a deal with @pizzeriadamichele to bring their world famous pizza to Manchester, in their new home at 53 King Street!”

The restaurant specialises in just two pizzas – the classic Margherita, and a simple marinara.
The two options represent the simplistic approach which is the most popular way to serve pizza in its homeland, with some Italians actually considering it blasphemous to add any extra toppings.
So there won’t be a double meat feast with BBQ base pizza on the menu, FYI.
There’s no word on an opening date, but it can be expected to be later in the year.
