Asda has launched its first-ever sustainability store filled with everyday household essentials available via refillable containers.

The new store has opened in Leeds and features loose or unwrapped produce with paper wrapping and recycling points throughout.

It comes as part of the supermarket chain’s efforts towards reducing waste by 50% and producing zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Huge household names are on board including PG Tips, Kellog’s and even our fave, Vimto!

There will also be stations for Radox and Persil meaning customers can bring their own refillable containers to help cut down on waste and packaging.

There will be recycling points throughout where you can drop crisp packets and plastic toys as well as cosmetics packaging and empty toothpaste tubes.

Asda has also provided an ‘Asa Price promise’ that the loose and unwrapped fruit and vegetables will not cost more than the packaged versions.

Roger Burnley, the chief executive of Asda, said: “Today marks an important milestone in our journey as we tackle plastic pollution and help our customers to reduce, reuse and recycle.

“We have always known that we couldn’t go on this journey alone, so it is fantastic to work in tandem with more than 20 of our partners and suppliers who have answered the call to test innovative sustainable solutions with us.”
