Asda has revealed the 82 locations that will make the move to cashless in a huge blow for shoppers.
The supermarket giant has already axed manned tills at 14 of its petrol stations – attached to its stores – since December and now wants to go cashless at 68 more of its fuel forecourts by the summer.
Out of the 300 fuel stations attached to Asda supermarket stores, 150 are already unmanned, with customers able to use the pay before filling up pumps.
The move will come as a huge blow for customers who usually pay with cash, particularly the elderly or those who need to budget their spending.
Asda said it was making the change because 90% of all payments at its petrol stations are made via card or contactless.
The supermarket said all staff working at its fuel forecourts will be redeployed to its supermarket stores, as a spokesperson added: “The colleagues who worked on these sites are moving into the store so they can better serve our customers.”
The areas affected by the change to cashless include some Greater Manchester sites, including Hulme, Eastlands, Rochdale, Leigh, Horwich and Bolton.
