B&M has confirmed it will be closing their stores on January 1st to give staff a ‘well-deserved rest’.

B&M, classed as an essential retailer, has been open throughout the pandemic letting people get their hands on food, cleaning suppliers, toiletries and plenty of other bits and bobs.

In recognition of the staff’s hard work, the store will be giving all the staff the first day of 2021 off.

Taking to Facebook to announce the news, they wrote: “To give our colleagues a well-deserved rest, all B&M stores will be closed on January 1st,”

“We hope 2021 is a great year for all of our colleagues, their families and all B&M shoppers.”

While many B&M fans appreciated the gesture, others thought the store has not gone far enough.

It comes after likes of The Entertainer, Home Bargains, Aldi, Pets at Home and M&S all announced they will be closing stores on Boxing Day to give staff an additional day off.

One fan shared the news in the ‘Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Group’ Facebook group and the post received over 148 comments.

One fan wrote: “44mil profit and this is all they get”

A second said: “Surely most of the shops would be shut new years day anyway? Bring back the days were the shops would stay shut from Christmas day for 3 or 4 days!”

A third said: “Wish they’d done this when I worked there. Absolute carnage it was”

Do you think the budget retailer has done enough or should the staff be rewarded with more time off?
