The body of a 67-year-old man was retrieved from the lake of a country park in Greater Manchester yesterday.
The elderly man tragically died in the incident which happened at Moses Gate Park, Farnworth, on the afternoon of Thursday, February 9th. Emergency services were called to the Bolton nature reserve after a passer-by saw the man in the water and alerted them at around 1.45pm.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics to revive the man, sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene. A cordon was set up by police and remained in place throughout the afternoon and evening, where officers could be seen inside a screen which had been set up.
It is not thought that there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death and his next of kin have been informed.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “GMP attended the scene at Moses Gate Country Park earlier today, where a 67-year-old man was found in the lake by a passer-by.
“Officers and colleagues from NWAS were on the scene within minutes but despite best efforts, he sadly, couldn’t be revived. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The next-of-kin have now been informed.”
Members of local campaign group Save Rock Hall witnessed the man’s body being pulled from the lake. A post on their Facebook page read: “Two of our team are at the park and have very sadly just witnessed the police/paramedics recovering the body of a man out of the main lodge.
“We are extremely saddened about this and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
