Two teenagers accused of murdering transgender teenager Brianna Ghey will go on trial today.
The 16-year-old was found lay on a path with fatal stab wounds in Culcheth Linear Park, Warrington, Cheshire shortly after 3pm on February 11th.
Sadly, Brianna was pronounced dead at the scene and a girl and boy, both aged 15 at the time, were arrested and charged with murder.
The defendants, now both 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons surrounding their age, both deny murdering Brianna who was a pupil at Birchwood High School, in Warrington.
They are identified only as girl X, from Warrington, and boy Y, from Leigh, Greater Manchester.
The trial begins today at Manchester Crown Court and is expected to last between three to four weeks.
A jury is set to be selected today before their trial starts, before Mrs Justice Yip.
Both defendants are being held in secure youth accommodation.
A candlelit vigil to honour Brianna’s life was held in Sackville Gardens, Manchester, on February 15th, earlier this year.
