Chester Zoo has announced it has received ‘unprecedented demand’ for tickets when they went live, adding that they will have to release more soon.
The Prime Minister lifted restrictions on outdoor attractions, providing parents with more opportunities to entertain their kids after 12 weeks of lockdown.
The news was massively welcomed by Chester Zoo fans who had been raising millions of pounds to save the zoo from permanent closure due to lockdown.
Since the announcement, Chester Zoo has taken to Facebook to announce ‘unprecedented demand for tickets’ that has been ‘simply off the charts’.
The message tells those who missed out not to worry as ‘loads more tickets will be released very, very soon’.
Chester Zoo also said they are working hard to get through the mountain of messages and emails they’ve received as quickly as they can.
If you’re one of the lucky ones who got their hands on the first release of tickets, it’s likely your visit will be quite different to any you’ve had before.
There are plenty of new social distancing measures in place including markings throughout the park, and there’s also self-scanning ticket lanes to get in.
There will also be multiple hand sanitisation points and new signposts, protective screens and service areas for visitors.
On a summer weekend in June, the zoo usually has around 15,000 visitors, but due to social distancing this number is massively reduced meaning it’s likely the next ticket release will sell out fast too.
Other changes include the closure of indoor restaurants and cafes as well as any indoor animal habitats such as the reptile enclosure. Outdoor food and drinks kiosks will be open as normal for takeaway.
You will also spot an increase in staff presence, who will be ensuring people keep their distance.

Chester Zoo’s announcement finished with a heartwarming thank you for all the support: “We’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times, but we really mean it so we’ll say it again… your love and support means the world to us. You really are SAVING OUR ZOO”.
