A devastated mum has paid tribute to her 15-year-old daughter who tragically died in a reservoir last week.
Kirsty Madden said her daughter Erin was ‘capable of anything’ and had her ‘whole life ahead of her’ before her death on Thursday, June 2nd.
Erin was swimming in Carr Mill Dam with her friends when she got into difficulty in the water at around 12.30pm.
Emergency services were called to reports of a girl in distress and recovered her body after hours of searching.
Kirsty shared her heartache on the St Helens Borough Council Facebook page, after the local authority warned people of the dangers of swimming in open water.
In a comment on the council’s page, she said: “This dam needs draining my daughter lost her life in there yesterday. How many more times does this need to keep happening to children until something is done.
“My girl had her whole life ahead of her she was capable of anything and it’s all been ripped away.
“We are all devastated beyond words and my life will never be the same again. I love you Erin with my heart and soul forever and always.”
Members of the public have left flowers at the scene and hundreds have expressed their condolences and heartbreak for Erin in posts on social media.
A Go Fund Me page sharing pictures of Erin has also been set up by family friend Toni Ward, who described the teenager as ‘a beautiful soul’, and wanted to help raise money for funeral costs.
