A dog stolen from Manchester was found by rescuers starving and tied to a lamppost 100 miles away from its home.

The malnourished XL Bully was discovered by dog walkers on Monday August 7th tied up near Birmingham Airport.

The canine was spotted looking sullen in a dark alley at around 11.30pm near Birmingham Business Park in Solihull.

Shane Burham from Sheldon Dog Services Ltd said a ‘shocked’ family contacted him after noticing the distressed dog. He told Birmingham Live of how the young animal was ‘barking and lunging out of fear’.

“Although he was very vocal and acting hard as he spotted us walking through the alley, we quickly realised he was just scared and needed some calm reassurance,” he said.

After giving the pup some treats Shane said the pup soon calmed down from its frightened state, and a trip to the vet confirmed the canine had been chipped.

It was later discovered that the animal had been stolen from its owners in Manchester around a year ago, with Shane saying they thought they’d ‘never see him again’.

In a post on the Sheldon Dog Services Facebook page, which gained 11,000 shares and reached around 50,000 people, a status revealed the kind family waited with the dog until animal rescuers came to collect it and take it to safety.

The post read: “Just been called to a tied-up dog at the business park in Chelmsley [Wood] on the way to the airport. [He was] tied to a lamppost in the walkthrough.

“They were rightly apprehensive about approaching or dealing with the poor handsome dog. We agreed to attend and assess if it would be safe to take them to the vet.

“He’s now just chilling on the back seat taking treats. Wish we could take him home with us as he genuinely seems like a big softie.

“Fingers crossed he’s been dumped by someone that’s stolen him as that way there may be someone out there looking for him. Please share just in case someone is missing this handsome lad.”

Shane praised the family who found the young bully and said John Spence, Sarah Campbell and her two sons Eli and Kaine could have saved the dog from something ‘much worse’.

Adding: “Without them waiting around and staying out til almost 3am, the dog may have been in a much worse situation now. Thank you.”
