The good news is that many retail workers are being given a well-deserved rest this year, with a lot of big name shops and supermarkets giving staff Boxing Day off.
Just yesterday Asda confirmed the news that all of its supermarkets will close on Boxing Day this year, so staff can spend time with loved ones. On top of that, many colleagues will also get a big Christmas bonus, with all eligible hourly-paid workers getting a guaranteed 100% bonus.

Asda’s CEO Roger Burnley said in a statement to staff: “This is of course our busiest time of year.
“But it was important for us to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to spend this time with those loved ones that you may not have seen for many months so, uniquely for this year, we will not reopen our stores until 27 December.” And Asda isn’t the only place giving staff the day off, as other big high street names like Aldi, Home Bargains and M&S have already announced plans to close on December 26th.
