The family of a 14-year-old boy who went missing and was tragically pulled from a river have launched a fundraiser for children at his school.

Relatives of Luke Howe have launched the fundraising campaign so ‘something positive’ can come from his tragic death.

Luke, who had learning disabilities, went missing from his grandparents’ home in Hale, in Trafford, on Thursday evening (January 18th).

A huge search operation was launched by Greater Manchester Police with several appeals and photos supplied by his family as Luke was described as being very ‘vulnerable’, due to having learning difficulties.

However, his body was sadly discovered on Friday afternoon in the River Bollin.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Now, Luke’s sister and aunt have launched a Go Fund Me page in his memory with the aim to raise money for his school, Brentwood Community College, which teaches pupils with complex needs.

His family say they want to ‘focus now on doing something positive’ for him.

In a post on the fundraising page, his aunt Jessica wrote: “Hi everyone, as I’m sure so many of you are aware now, our beloved nephew/ son/ brother/ grandson/ friend Luke Howe was tragically found dead today.

“Speaking with his sister, Lydia, we want to focus now on doing something positive in Luke’s name and we have decided we would love to fundraise for his school, Brentwood College, in memory of his name.”

The post continued: “Brentwood is an outstanding school for SEND pupils with additional needs and we are hoping to fundraise for new soft play for the school for anyone who would like to contribute as, in his sister’s words, there was nothing he loved more.

“If there is anything you can spare to help this school that did so much for Luke, we’d be forever grateful xxx.”

Within hours of the page opening, thousands of pounds had been donated. At time of writing, it had reached almost £40,000, drawing close to its £50,000 target.
