Fines for breaking lockdown restrictions will be doubling for each repeat offence, rising to £3,200 as a maximum from Wednesday.

As the latest announcement from Boris Johnson relaxed some lockdown restrictions including unlimited exercise and visiting public areas such as parks and beaches, fines have also been increased.

From Wednesday May 13th, the public will be allowed to partake in unlimited exercise and visit parks and beaches to partake in sports activities or relax with members of their household.

They will also be allowed to see other members of their family (or friends) they do not live with, providing they abide by the social distancing rules.

The fine for breaking the rules has increased from £60 to £100, and will be implemented from Wednesday.

The first fine a person receives, if paid within 14 days will be lowered to £50. Fines will double for each repeat offence with a capped maximum of £3,200.

Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, interviewed on BBC North West Breakfast this morning, warned the people of Manchester to ‘be very cautious’ and to ‘take time before you make any major changes to your routine’.

His advice comes after he questioned Boris Johnson’s rollout of the new rules across the UK while coronavirus is still spreading in Greater Manchester.
