A nine-year-old girl has died after being shot in Liverpool.
Officers were called to reports of a shooting at a house down Kingsheath Avenue in Knotty Ash at 10pm last night (August 22nd).
There, the girl was found with a gun shot wound to the chest. She was taken to the hospital, where she sadly died.
A man also suffered gunshot wounds to his body while a woman was shot in the hand.
Merseyside Police have since launched a murder investigation and a manhunt for the killer, who is currently on the run.
CCTV, forensic and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out by police over the incident.
Assistant chief constable Jenny Sims said the shooting was ‘truly shocking’, adding in a statement: “No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of a child in these dreadful circumstances.
“This crime is abhorrent and our communities must come forward and tell us who is responsible.
“This cowardly individual does not deserve to be walking the streets and I would urge those who know anything to speak to us and tell us what they know so that we can put the person responsible behind bars where they belong.”
Sims added: “We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry as a matter of urgency and would ask for dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage from anyone who lives, works or was visiting the area of Kingsheath Avenue last night.”
According to BBC News, officers said they are aware of a culture of ‘not grassing to the police’ in the area, and have urged people to ‘get beyond that culture and come forward with information’.
