In a bit of good news to come out of the doom and gloom, a 95-year-old grandma has successfully beaten coronavirus.

The Italian woman was diagnosed with the virus this month, and was rushed to a hospital in the province of Modena.

Alma Clara Corsini, from Fanano, fell ill on March 5th, but after a successful recovery it’s believed she’s the oldest Italian to overcome COVID-19.

Medical staff confirmed her body showed a ‘great reaction’, with Ms Corsini telling Italian newspaper Gazzetta Di Modena: “Yes, yes, I’m fine. They were good people who looked after me well, and now they’ll send me home in a little while.”

Hospital specialists said the 95-year-old was able to recover without ‘antiviral therapy’ – medications which help a patient fight a viral infection – and she’s now returned home after being discharged.

Gazzetta Di Modena reported that Ms Corsini was the ‘pride of the staff’ during her hospital stay, as the country deals with rising numbers of coronavirus cases.

This comes after a 79-year-old Italian man recovered from the disease after 12 days, with the aid of experimental Ebola drug remdesiver.

The drug also appeared to be successful when used to treat a woman from the US, as well as 12 Americans who travelled on the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
