At the moment it feels like it’s been raining relentlessly for months now, but if you were worried you’d never see the sun again, fear not – we’ve got some good news. Greater Manchester is set to be hotter than Rio de Janeiro this Friday, with some blazing sunshine to boot. This is very welcome news considering the disappointing summer we’ve had so far, after a very warm start at the beginning of lockdown – where we couldn’t even enjoy it properly anyway.
According to current forecasts, Manchester will see highs of 28C on Friday, although at its peak it’ll feel more like 32C, and the other boroughs of our region will see the same temperatures. In contrast, the Brazilian city, famous for its beaches and good weather, will only reach highs of 22C, with cloud forecast for the entire day. The rest of the UK is also set to be hit with similar high temperatures on Friday, so don’t worry if you don’t reside in Greater Manchester.

Talking about the North West, the Met Office said: “Friday will be dry with plenty of very warm sunshine. Scattered thundery showers developing overnight then sunny spells on Saturday.” While the heatwave won’t run into the weekend, the weather is still looking okay for Saturday and Sunday, with highs of around 20C and occasional sunshine. So you best make the most of it on Friday then, and get outside and samba your way around Bolton or Wigan.
