A senior officer at Greater Manchester Police has been suspended over claims of ‘misconduct’, the force has announced.

The officer has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for further investigation, GMP confirmed yesterday.

The IOPC will consider the officer’s ‘standards of professional behaviour’.

The force has not named the officer, given their rank or the district where they work.

In a statement issued yesterday afternoon, Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods, QPM said: “Following an allegation of misconduct, a senior officer has been suspended from duty and referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation into their standards of professional behaviour.”

A spokesman for the Independent Office for Police Conduct said: “We are waiting for a referral from GMP and will assess the available information to determine if any further action is required from us.”

GMP is currently in special measure following an inspection by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Service in December 2020.
