After the region was battered by Storm Ciara this weekend, forecasters are warning of more bad weather to come.

Greater Manchester has been issued with yet another weather warning for this weekend by the Met Office, with chances of ‘injuries and danger to life’ because of very strong winds.

Storm Dennis was named today, Tuesday February 11th, by the Met Office, with 60mph winds and occasional heavy rain set to hit the region from Saturday at midday until the early hours of Sunday.

Storm Ciara caused chaos across the country on Sunday, with flooding throughout Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Yorkshire – around 150 Greater Manchester properties are thought to have flooded, with Bury worst affected.

The Met Office said in a statement today: “Very strong winds in association with Storm Dennis are expected on Saturday across many parts of England and Wales.

“Gusts of 50 mph are expected widely inland, with around 60 mph in places. Around the coasts, especially in the west and south, gusts of 60-70 mph are likely. This will be accompanied by heavy rain at times.”

While Dennis is not forecast to be as severe as Storm Ciara at this point, a National Severe Weather Warning for wind has been issued for most of the country.

Steve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Another spell of very wet and windy weather is expected for Saturday. Although Storm Dennis is currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara, disruption is still likely.

“Our confidence in the forecast means we have been able to issue severe weather warnings well in advance, giving people time to prepare for potential impacts of the storm. With further warnings possible over the next few days people should keep up to date with the Met Office forecast using our website, app or by following us on social media.”
