The bakery giant, Greggs, is planning on reopening 800 stores across the UK from mid-June.

The Sun has reported that Greggs revealed plans to reopen hundreds of stores up and down the country following a successful trial in a small number of branches in Tyneside in early May.

It’s great news for Greggs lovers that in just over two short weeks the doors that will reveal delicious sausage rolls and pasties will once again be open bringing baked, flaky pastry joy to the whole nation.

A Greggs spokeswoman said: “We have planned and delivered robust shop trials using our new operational safety measures and they have progressed well, allowing us to now move to open an increased number of our shops from mid-June.”

The chain, like most others, closed their doors on March 24th following the lockdown restrictions coming into practice, despite being able to remain open to provide takeaway orders.

The gradual reopening has followed trials, with staff testing working practices while remaining shut to customers.

It’s likely this news will go down well across the nation, and at one store that reopened in Newcastle, customers were almost instantly queuing out their door for pasties.

The news comes after Greggs previously delayed initial plans to reopen 20 stores due to fears of overcrowding.

The trial run saw branches open with limited product range, shorter working hours and staff adhering to social distancing rules.

The move comes after dozens of fast food outlets have started reopening across the country and are being met with huge hours-long queues.
