American restaurant chain Hooters has applied to open a new venue right here in Greater Manchester. The controversial chain sees waitresses in revealing clothes serve a variety of drinks and food, including their famous chicken wings. Hooters has applied for a licence for a site over in Salford Quays, with the application submitted by Nottingham-based Julian Mills.

As it stands, the only Hooters currently in the UK is in Nottingham, however permission for a second site in Liverpool has been given the green light.
The Liverpool venue faced a backlash of opposition, with a petition calling the chain ‘an archaic and chauvinistic brand’. The application which has been sent to Salford City Council requests a licence to run live music, recorded music and dance performances.

If the venue is given the go-ahead, the new Hooters would operate from 9am to 1am, seven days a week, similar to the chain’s restaurants in the US. As part of his application, Mr Mills said he would advertise it ‘in the local newspaper and that notice should appear at least once within 10 working days of the application being submitted’.
