The Jet2 aircraft taking holidaymakers to Ibiza suddenly made a U-turn over the English Channel and headed back to Manchester Airport.

Jet2 flight LS191 departed Manchester at 5.45pm — 30 minutes later than scheduled — as it headed for the party destination situated in the Balearic Islands with an estimated arrival time of 9pm, on Wednesday July 12th.

But half way through the journey, the Boeing 757-200 was forced to turn around and divert back to Manchester.

Reports online suggest the reason for this was due to a ‘technical’ issue with the aircraft and ‘communications issues’ or an issue with ‘radio’, although nothing has yet been confirmed.

However, Jet2 released a public post on social media which said the diversion was due to ‘unforeseen operational reasons’, though it is not yet clear what these reasons were.

The flight path shows the location the aircraft made the U-turn before heading back to Manchester where it circled near the Peak District a couple of times before being given the go-ahead to land.
