Legendary Manchester nightclub Fifth Avenue has closed permanently, in a sad blow for the city’s nightlife.

Located on Princess Street, the venue had shut during the Covid pandemic but it’s now been reported that it has closed down for good.

The licence for the venue was ‘surrendered by the licence holder, 5th Leisure Limited, on 23/11/2021’, according to Manchester City Council as per the M.E.N.

While the nightclub had been shuttered since March 2020 when the pandemic first brought the country to a halt, the sad news that it won’t be reopening has now been confirmed.

Licencing documents from last September showed that Fifth’s owners had wanted to renovate and refurbish the venue with extra soundproofing.

However, Manchester City Council recommended the application be refused, referring to ‘significant noise complaints’ dating back to 2006.

Social media posts showed that staff thought the plan was to reopen after the refurbishment.

Unfortunately the club is now effectively shut as the licence has been surrendered.

Whether you love it or hate it, Fifth Avenue has been a stalwart of Manchester’s clubbing scene since it opened, and most Mancunians will have a memory (or not) of a night out there.

Before renaming as Fifth Avenue, the underground venue was called Legend and was a precursor to the legendary Hacienda.
