A lorry has overturned on the M60 Barton Bridge as Storm Pia wreaks havoc.
All lanes on the busy flyover are currently closed between junction 10, Trafford Park, and junction 11, Eccles.
Greater Manchester Police report no injuries were sustained in the incident and advise that motorists ‘avoid the area’ adding that people should ‘not travel unless essential’.
The incident happened at around 8.15am and disruption is likely to last the rest of the morning and beyond while the vehicle is being recovered. It is believed the gale force winds of Storm Pia, caused the HGV to turn over.
The North West Motorway Police said in a post on Twitter: “M60 #BartonBridge is currently being closed in both directions between J10 & J11due to high winds that have blown large sided vehicle over.
Please avoid this area and do not travel unless essential @gmpolice.”
A spokesperson for GMP said: “Police are currently responding to an ongoing incident on junction 10 of the M60 motorway, near Barton Bridge. A lorry has overturned, and no injuries have been reported.”
The force added: “NWAS and GMFRS are also in attendance to assist with vehicle recovery. Barton Bridge has been closed clockwise between the Trafford Centre at Junction 10 and Eccles Junction 11.
“Road closures are likely to cause disruption to motorists this morning. The anticlockwise flow has reduced significantly and will cause delays to the Trafford Centre. Alternative routes are advised.”
Meanwhile, road users are asked to follow the solid square diversion symbol on local road signs.
Drivers can exit the M60 clockwise at junction nine, when they reach the Lostock Circle roundabout they should take the third exit onto the A5081 northbound.
When they reach the parkway circle roundabout, take the second exit onto the A576 northbound.
At Gilda Brook roundabout, drivers can take the first exit onto the M602 westbound.
