The last time that a restaurant in the city [The French] had a Michelin Star was way back in 1977, but today Mana has lifted this 42 year long drought.

The man behind it all is ex-Noma chef Simon Martin, who for a period of time was actually homeless when he was working at the world renowned restaurant over in Copenhagen. When asked why he tihnks it’s taken so long for Manchester to receive a star, his response was refreshingly honest –

“Michelin have very specific criteria and we’ve met them and other people haven’t. I think that’s all it really comes down to.”

The huge 19-course tasting menu that won Simon and the team the Michelin was heavily based on the four seasons, using British produce. Simon says this was quite restrictive for the restaurant and so now it will be an ever-evolving structure that will result in a much more fluid experience for the customer.

Hopefully this is just the start of a bright future for Manchester’s foodie scene and Simon is already focused on that second star!
