Manchester is set to get a brand new city centre park – the first we’ve had in 100 years – and it looks mint.

The 6.5-acre park will form part of a £1.4billion regeneration project at Mayfield, and some images of the proposed site have been released.

It’s the brainchild of the Mayfield Partnership, which is made up of Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, U+I and London and Continental Railways (LCR).

The project will see the redevelopment of a 30-acre site behind Piccadilly Station, with developers planning to create a parkland and garden area, complete with paved walkways and trees.

Mayfield park will also have a conservation area – to preserve natural wildlife habitats – as well as an urban square, open greens for sport and adventure play areas for families.

Besides the park area, there’ll also be another 6.5-acre site for a new public space, featuring old architectural railway furniture, which will be used for cultural events for the community.

The area will also see 1,500 new homes, a 650-bed hotel, 1.7m sq ft of office space, shops under the railway arches, and a car park opposite Piccadilly Station constructed.

Over 10,000 retail, office, leisure and construction jobs are estimated to be created in the process.

Work is expected to begin in summer 2020, if all goes smoothly with planning permission.
