Mason Greenwood’s accuser releases statement following rape and assault allegations

Mason Greenwood’s accuser has issued a statement to thank everyone for their support after the footballer was released on bail.

The eighteen-year-old student explained that the last few days have been ‘very difficult’ before saying she will be ‘taking a break’ from social media as the police make their investigations.

In a post on Instagram, she wrote: “I’m grateful to everyone that has sent messages of support and encouragement – thank you.

“The last few days have been very difficult and I’m taking a break from social media while the police make their investigations.”

Greenwood, twenty, was first arrested on suspicion of rape and GBH on Sunday after social media posts showed him allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

On Tuesday, he was further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill.

GMP said in a statement that the player was arrested on Sunday after the force ‘became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence’.

The statement continued: “An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his twenties has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning.”

Manchester United quickly announced that Greenwood would not be returning to training, saying in a statement: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.

“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”
