McDonald’s is set to reopen 40 drive-thrus next week, according to new reports today.

The fast food chain will reopen the drive-thrus next Wednesday, May 20th, across the UK and Ireland, with the aim of opening all 900 by early June.

The sites will be open for delivery and drive-thru, as a test to see how they can operate safely, The Sun reports.

This comes after Maccies revealed 15 branches are opening for delivery only from tomorrow, Wednesday May 13th.

This news faced a backlash from people in the North of England – and anywhere outside of Greater London, really – as all 15 sites were in and around the capital.

Phase 2 of its reopening plan will be the drive-thru trial next week, and luckily this is set to include the North and Ireland as well.

Depending how successful this trial is, McDonald’s will then decide whether to focus on drive-thru, takeaway or both, as they move on to phase 3 and 4 of reopening.

It’s not yet been revealed which drive-thrus will open next week, so keep your eyes peeled – fingers crossed we get some in Greater Manchester this time.
