A body found in a canal in Wigan has been identified as a missing 20-year-old man.
Umad Yaap was reported missing from Standish, in Wigan, at around 8pm on Thursday August 10th.
Greater Manchester Police shared a number of appeals to find Mr Yaap, with reports suggesting he was last seen at the Britannia Hotel.
On Sunday August 13th, officers were called to reports of a body in the Leeds Liverpool Canal, near Woodhouse Lane in Wigan.
Emergency services recovered the body of a man from the water. A formal identification has taken place with the body being confirmed sadly, as being Mr Yaap.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Superintendent Ian Jones said: “Our condolences are with Mr Yaap’s loved ones and we would also like to thank the members of the public who helped with the search or shared our appeal.”
