More quiet hours will be put in place across all Morrisons’ stores from this weekend, to help shoppers with autism.

Back in 2018 Morrisons first introduced quiet hours on Saturdays, after hearing about the difficulties faced while shopping in noisy and busy environments for those families affected by autism.

The new quiet hour on a Sunday will now be rolled out in all Morrisons stores, and will operate from 10am to 11am on Sundays (in stores that open from 10am), alongside the 9am to 10am quiet hour already in place on Saturdays.

The initiative has been welcomed by many customers and it is hoped that introducing the quiet hour on Sunday will help provide more opportunities for shoppers to shop peacefully.

David Potts, Morrisons Chief Executive, said: “The introduction of the quieter hours has been appreciated by many customers who prefer to shop in a calmer environment.

“Extending them to include Sundays will offer more opportunities to shop more peacefully.”

The Quiet Hours will include:

  • Dimmed lights
  • Radio and music turned off
  • Tannoy announcements avoided
  • Reduced movement of trolleys and baskets
  • Electrical noises such as checkout beeps will be turned down
  • Posters will placed outside to inform customers that it is Quiet Hour
