Supermarket workers have been on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic, having to work in demanding conditions, and often without the praise they deserve.

In these uncertain times, some employers have stepped up to recognise this incredible effort and some have disgraced themselves (Wetherspoons comes to mind).

When it comes to stepping up, both Tesco and Aldi are paying their staff a 10% bonus to say thanks for their hard work, and Asda is giving all vulnerable staff who need to self-isolate for 12 weeks paid leave.

Now Morrisons is joining the list, after it announced staff will be getting an extra £1,050 in their pay packets this year, to say thanks for their hard work.

All Morrisons staff will get some extra cash, as the supermarket triples its bonuses for workers, according to PA.

Staff on the frontline will see a 6% bonus on top of their yearly earnings, which equates to just over £1k for full time workers – it’ll be paid in quarterly installments, Morrisons has confirmed.

In even better news, staff who are sick or self-isolating, and those new hires that have just joined the company to deal with the extra demand will also get the bonus.

Clare Grainger, Morrisons’ group people director, said: “Our highly valued colleagues have stood tall amidst the coronavirus pandemic, playing their full part in feeding the nation.

“We want to thank every single one of them for their continued hard work during these unprecedented times by paying a much higher guaranteed bonus for the whole year in recognition of their effort.”

What a brilliant gesture!
