North West Motorway Police stopped a vehicle on the M6 after receiving reports of two children travelling in the boot.
Officers stopped the Volkswagen Arteon at junction 20 at the Lymm Interchange and were shocked to discover two children inside.
The family were heading on holiday before they were pulled over. Blankets and cushions were also found inside the boot of the car.
Police said the driver was reported for three offences including carrying two passengers with no seatbelts and using a vehicle for an unsuitable purpose.
In a tweet posted this morning (July 25th), the force wrote: “VW Arteon stopped following report of X7 people on board ,2 children in the boot.
“Vehicle sighted on the M6, taken off Junction 20, Driver reported for 3 offences, carrying 2 passengers with no seatbelts and using a veh for an unsuitable purpose. Family going on holiday.”
Commenting on the tweet, one person said: “On what planet would ANYONE think this was ok?” Another added: “Just beggars all logic. Perhaps a couple of videos of accidents where people who’ve had no seatbelt on will make them think twice.”
Reminiscing of a time before seat belt wearing was made compulsory for the UK (in 1983) in order to keep us safe and help save lives, one person recalled: “Many a day trip or caravan holiday with my brother in the boot in the 80s.”
Another remembered: “Back to the eighties couple of kids in the footwell and one on the parcel shelf.” And someone else simply added: “Back in the day…..”
