Prestwich’s local favourite Chips @ No.8 has announced it will be expanding its business due to overwhelming demand.

Since opening in 2018, the fish & chip shop has gone from strength to strength as residents, and hungry customers from further afield, consistently flock to the takeaway to snatch a taste of its beef dripping deep fried goods.

The local gem has took to social media yesterday to make an announcement that it has been ‘left with no choice but to expand’ due to an ‘overwhelming response’ from customers over the last six years.

Where might Chips @ No.8 be expanding to? Well, the chippy says what better place than to take over the double premises right next door.

The business will remain on Clifton Road but will move into the larger building just next door, although the favourite food haunt has said it will not be changing its name to ‘Chips@No.4 to 6’.

In a caption beside an image of the new currently incomplete premises, the chippy wrote: “Finally, we can address the worst kept secret in P-Town’s history! Chips @ No.8 will be moving next door soon(ish) and no, we won’t be called Chips @No.4 to 6, nor Chips Next Door to Chips at No.8!

“Almost exactly 6 years ago I had this ludicrous idea that in order to be my own boss I should take over a struggling business and cook food that at the time I had absolutely no love for and no experience with, cooking nor eating.

“6 years on and that food is an obsession and the response from you all has been overwhelming and has far exceeded our wildest expectations. We had no choice but to look for bigger premises, and where better than directly next door!

“So, what to expect? Same cracking [fish & chips]….same banging tunes…. more menu choice….we’ll be able to cater for veg oil orders quicker….more GF choice….we’ll be open more hours….you’ll be able to get a beer whilst you wait…and we’ll have a dining room!

“Chips @ No.8 is growing up and we can’t wait to share more details with you! #prestwich #prestwichvillage #whitefield #bury #manchester #manchesterfood #fishandchips.”

Owner Dan Edwards has said customers can expect ‘cracking fish & chips’ and ‘beer whilst you wait’, and all beers on tap will be gluten free.

Mr Edwards says the expansion will allow for ‘more menu choice’, less waiting time and it will even have a dining area for those who wish to dine-in.

Immediately, fans flocked to the comment section to welcome the news, as one person wrote: “At long last! Can’t wait xx.”

A second put: “Rumours were afoot….. Glad to hear they weren’t just rumours. Bigger and better.” A third chimed in: “Date night option!” A fourth typed: “Absolutely smashing chippy.” And a fifth person said: “Fabulous news. Many congratulations. Can’t wait for the new venture.”

The chippy will also be providing ‘banging tunes’ while hungry punters wait as their feasts are being prepared.

The chip shop is known for queues extending round the corner come opening time and offers a delight selection of traditional English chippy choices. Menu offerings can be made with a choice of beef dripping or vegetable oil to suit every taste.

Chips @ No.8 is regularly voted as one of Britain’s best fish & chip shops.
