A section of the hated wall in Piccadilly Gardens is set to be demolished, in news that’s sure to please everyone. The news broke today, with Manchester City Council confirming that the free-standing part of the wall will be taken down – the part that separates the grass and the bus station. According to the Manchester Evening News, next week the council’s executive committee will be asked to sign off nearly £2m of funding to improve Piccadilly Gardens.

As part of this, a number of early improvements will be made to the area, including demolishing the ‘Berlin Wall’.
The other, larger part of the wall where Caffè Nero is – known as the Pavilion – will remain for now, as it’s owned by pension fund Legal & General rather then the council. However, it’s future isn’t guaranteed and it could also be demolished further down the line, according to reports.
