Police have confirmed a person has died on a railway line in Wigan borough.
Emergency services were called after receiving ‘reports of a casualty on the tracks’ near Lowton on Thursday, January 18th.
Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene at around 5.50pm.
The British Transport Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report is currently being prepared for the coroner.
A spokesperson for the BTP said: “Officers were called to the line in Lowton at around 5.50pm yesterday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
No further details of the deceased person have been released at this time.
