Peter Kay has revealed he wants to do a Phoenix Nights feature film and has already written several Max and Paddy Christmas specials.

In his upcoming memoir ‘T.V.: Big Adventures on the Small Screen’ released later this week, Peter Kay writes about the numerous shows he’s created and worked on, as well his desire to bring back Phoenix Nights in the form of a full-length film.

In the book, which comes out on Thursday, September 28th, Kay confirms he still has ideas for Phoenix Nights but that if it came back, it would have to be for ‘something very special’ like a film.

This isn’t the first time Kay has dropped the hint about a possible feature film. Back in 2011 he told producers a script was ‘ready to go’.

He also told BBC Radio Manchester back in 2017 that he would ‘love to go back’ to the iconic series. At the time, he said: “There’s a whole series three [which has] been written for about 15 years.”

Elsewhere in his new book, the Bolton-born comedian reveals he had written plans for a Max and Paddy Road To Nowhere Christmas special.

Taken from an extract from his new memoir, the follow-up to his best-selling autobiography from 2007 ‘The Sound of Laughter’, Kay writes: “I still write down ideas.

“I had an idea only today of Brian getting Young Kenny to paint an enormous letter ‘H’ on the roof of the club so he can advertise they’ve got a helicopter pad.

“The chance of a helicopter ever landing is, of course, zero. As the years pass, I’m becoming more like Brian, but if Phoenix Nights rose again it’d have to be for something very special, maybe a film?

“Perhaps Brian could get visited by three ghosts. Now, wouldn’t that be an idea?”

We’d like this to be more than just an idea!

Kay wrote that it would be a ‘joy’ to work with his friend and ex co-star Paddy McGuinness again, and it seems Paddy feels the same as he also dropped hints at a return of Max and Paddy earlier this year.

Back in March, McGuinness hinted: “But we [him and Kay] do talk about it and what have you, but, I don’t, I can’t, I can’t see it at the minute, but we never say never, but it’s good to talk.

“Max and Paddy for instance, we wrote a couple of Christmas specials, and we’ve still got them.

“We never got around to doing one for whatever the reasons were back in the day. But we’ve actually got them!”

The comedy legend sold out his Manchester residence at the AO Arena where he is currently performing his latest stand-up.

Peter Kay’s book T.V.: Big Adventures on the Small Screen releases on Thursday, September 28th.
