Police have been called to the same house 30 times as the residents continued to ignore the social distancing rules.

The house located in Widnes, Cheshire, has now officially had a closure ordered against it. There had been continued reports of gatherings within and around the house for the past month, clearly breaching the measures put in place during the lockdown.

Widnes Police took to Twitter to announce the closure ‘following persistent anti-social behaviour and breaches of coronavirus regulations’.

The closure will mean no visitors can enter the house for the next three months. The police have confirmed the persistent visitors face fixed penalty notices for not complying.

Should anyone choose to ignore the closure notice, they can be arrested and face a six-month jail term, an unlimited fine, or even both.

Police Constable Ian Prashar said: “The behaviour of people inside and outside the address in Foster Street caused those living in nearby properties significant alarm, harassment and distress.

“I am delighted that the closure order has been secured and I want to thank the members of the public who played a key role in this.

“The information they supplied was crucial in us gathering the evidence needed to secure the order. We want people to be able to live in their homes without having to suffer from the effects of unacceptable issues at neighbouring properties.

“The closure order is another example of our commitment to targeting those who undermine our communities and have a significant detrimental impact on the quality of life of local residents through unacceptable behaviour.

“I hope that this case encourages others to report and give statements regarding such behaviour at properties they live near. As this case shows, we will do something about it.”

This follows as a further reminder that the police are taking the lockdown measures very seriously. Although most of the country are helping the NHS and reducing the spread of COVID-19 by staying home, to ignore the advice risks your health and the health of others.
