Greater Manchester Police were forced to shut down a house party last night, after receiving a phone call from the public. Police attended the house at Cottam Street in Bury at about 9.30pm yesterday, after reports people weren’t following social distancing restrictions. There were about 10 people in the house at one point, a witness has said, while a resident of the street claimed the police were forced to come out three times to deal with it. According to a Facebook post, which described the woman who lives there as ‘selfish’: “The police were called, two left and as soon as the police left she let them back in.
“The police came three times which resulted in seven cars and vans blocking the street and at least 15 officers taken off the street.”

This claim has been contradicted by the police, however, who said there is only one record of officers attending the property. A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 9.30pm on Saturday April 4th 2020, police were called to reports of non-compliance with Government restrictions at a property on Cottam Street, Bury. Officers attended and a group of people was dispersed.” This comes as 4,934 people in the UK have died in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus – as of 5pm Saturday. The Department of Health confirmed the figures, which sees an increase of 621 deaths. So far 195,524 people have been tested for COVID-19, with 47,806 testing positive.
