£300,000 of laundered money has been found and seized from the boot of a car found travelling down the M6.

North West Motorway Police took to Twitter to share the mammoth haul, explaining that the car was stopped and searched at the Sandbach check site during a stop check.

During the search, however, Regional Commercial Vehicle Unit and MO24 officers found a bag containing £300,000 in cash in the boot, something that the driver ‘couldn’t account for’.

The cash was subsequently seized and the driver was arrested.

Their tweet reads: “Vehicle stopped at Sandbach check site by RCVU & MO24 for a stop check.

“£300k found in the boot that the driver couldn’t account for. Money seized and driver arrested for money laundering.

“Our patrols will continue to deny criminals the use of the roads.”

The identity of the driver and further details surrounding their arrest are yet to be released.
