Police surround electric vehicle on M62 after driver unable to brake
The driver was brought to safety thanks to the quick response of officers
Several police cars raced to the M62 to surround an electric vehicle and bring it to safety after the driver was unable to brake.
Blue lights headed to the motorway on Wednesday afternoon (March 6th) following an ‘electrical fault’ which left the vehicle unable to stop.
Officers from Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside Police forces came to the rescue and quickly surrounded the vehicle using specialist tactics where they were able to ram it and block it, bringing it to a stop.
The horrifying ordeal took place between Junction 11 for Birchwood and Junction 12 for Eccles. All lanes were closed off on the motorway while officers carried out the operation.
An image released shows a stationary black vehicle wedged between police Matrix vehicles on the hard shoulder.
In a post on social media, North West Motorway Police wrote: “Police currently have a lane 3 and 4 closure on M62 EB J11 to 12.
“This is following the use of tactics to stop an electric vehicle with an electric fault where the driver was unable to brake. Motorway officers from Merseyside, Cheshire and GMP brought the vehicle to a safe stop.”
Following the incident, two lanes were reopened to allow traffic to pass once it was considered safe to do so, though there were long delays as traffic had become congested in the build up to rush hour.
