Poundland has announced it will be opening 30 stores across the UK from next week, following the slight easing of lockdown measures.

The retailer temporarily closed 100 stores at the start of the lockdown.

The 30 stores will reopen with social distancing measures in place, including security guards on the doors to limit the number of customers in-store at any one time. There will also be floor markers to highlight the 2 metre distance.

There will also be perspex screens to protect workers and customers, and ‘rigorous hygiene routines’ including hand-washing every 2 minutes and surfaces wiped every hour.

Austin Cooke, Poundland’s retail director, said: “We’ve never been prouder of our role as a retailer at the heart of communities and high streets.

“While safety has to come first, we’re delighted to be able to begin reopening hibernating Poundland stores to fully serve those communities across the UK with the essentials they need.”
