Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died, Buckingham Palace has confirmed today.

Queen Elizabeth had been on the throne for seventy years, the longest reigning British monarch in history.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said the Queen ‘died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon’.

The statement continued: “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

This afternoon the Palace revealed that the Queen had been put under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became ‘concerned for her health’.

An official statement read: “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.

“The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

Her Majesty’s family rushed to be by her side, including Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Prince William and Prince Harry also travelled to Scotland to be with their grandmother.

However, the Duchess of Cambridge has remained in Windsor as Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are on their first full day at their new school.
